Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) is committed to promoting continuous learning, with the SHKP Book Club getting people to read more and more good books. SHKP is staging ‘A Letter to My Family’ book review competition this year to encourage family members to write each other a letter on their thoughts, views and feelings about a book, which is one way to enhance family harmony.

The kick-off ceremony held today (March 28) was attended by the judges including SHKP Chairman and Managing Director Raymond Kwok, the Chinese University of Hong Kong Vice-Chancellor Joseph Sung, cross-media writer Chun'en Li, children’s literature author Chau Mat-mat, columnist Wat Wing Yin, columnist and Goyeah.com CEO Sharon Cheung and media veteran and RoadShow Holdings Ltd Chief Operating Officer Thomas Lo Sui Sing. They talked about reading, writing family letters, family and parent-child relationships.

Raymond Kwok said: “With today’s advanced technology, many people have adapted to communicate through e-mails and text messages, which are convenient but less personal compared to hand-written letters. We hope this event will promote reading and writing in the community, with family letters to encourage people to appreciate their families and enhance social harmony.”

The competition is now open for entries. Entrants can choose from one of the 20 books about family love recommended by the Organizer or any other book of their own choice but with the same theme and write a book review in a family letter format. There are three categories: Junior (aged 6-12), Intermediate (aged 13-18) and Open (above 18 years old), plus a ‘Love From Far Away’ Special Prize for entries about living abroad and away from family for three months or over. Each category includes a champion, a first runner-up, a second runner-up and five merit prize winners. The champion will receive an iPad 2 with Wi-Fi 16GB. The champion, first runner-up, second runner-up and merit prize winners will receive HK$2,000, HK$1,000, HK$500 and HK$200 book vouchers, respectively. Winner of the ‘Love From Far Away’ Special Prize will receive a HK$3,000 travel voucher. Each of the winners will receive four admission tickets to the sky100 Hong Kong Observation Deck. There will also be the ‘Most Active Participation Award’ for primary and secondary schools, with a trophy for each winner.

Visit the Competition website for details. Submission deadline is April 30, 2012. Results will be announced in June 2012.
