Professor Yu Dan at SHKP Book Club seminar in Hong Kong

12 Jan 2008

Sun Hung Kai Properties' SHKP Book Club is presenting a series of public seminars with noted authors and scholars speaking on reading-related topics. The seminar series starting today (January 12) is jointly organised by the Book Club, Up Publications and MGuru.  The first of the series had Professor Yu Dan of the Faculty of Media and Arts at Beijing Normal University speaking on the ‘Philosophy of Life in Chinese Classics' at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre. SHKP Executive Director Michael Wong presented a souvenir to Professor Yu at the seminar.

Professor Yu is a noted Chinese scholar, and she explained her perception of how people can apply the philosophies from Chinese classics in their daily livers.  She also exchanged ideas with the audience about reading.  The seminar was very popular; drawing a full house including teachers, students, professionals and seniors.

Professor Yu teaches at the Faculty of Media and Arts at Beijing Normal University.  She previously hosted the Lecture Room show on CCTV that examined the Analects of Confucius and Zhuangzi, which have been transcribed into Thoughts on the Analects of Confucius and Thoughts on the Analects of Zhuangzi, contributing significantly to Chinese scholarship.

The SHKP Book Club will organize more seminars with well-known authors talking about reading and life.  Previous activities to foster a reading culture in Hong Kong have included book review competitions, a young writers' debut competition, favourite book poll, book fair, meet-the-author sessions and publishing a free magazine on books and reading.
