As part of its long-term commitment to promoting reading and holistic development, Sun Hung Kai Properties Limited (SHKP), through its SHKP Reading Club, today announces the call for entries to its second ‘A Letter to My Family’ SHKP Book Review Competition. The kick-off ceremony today (28 March) was attended by SHKP Chairman and Managing Director Raymond Kwok, celebrity judges include Vice Chairwoman of The Federation of Hong Kong Writers Chau Mat-mat, University of Hong Kong Head of the School of Chinese CM Si, Lingnan University Associate Vice President (Academic Affairs) and Registrar Chan Ching-kiu, Former Director of Welfare and Secretary for Health and Welfare Elizabeth Wong Chien Chi-lien and veteran educator Terence Chang, and actor Wayne Lai. They talked about how reading cultivates creativity and fostering family and parent-child relations with creative activities.
‘A Letter to My Family’ competition promotes family ties and community harmony by encouraging the public, especially youngsters, to share their reading experience, thoughts and feelings with loved ones in the form of family letters. Raymond Kwok said: “With today’s advanced technology, many people stay in touch through e-mails, text messages or social networking, which are convenient but less personal than handwritten letters. The book review competition promotes reading, writing and goodwill in the community. We inspire everyone to write family letters to show appreciation for loved ones and make the community a better place for everyone.”
Sun Hung Kai Properties set up the SHKP Reading Club in late 2013 to consolidate its reading-related initiatives. All book lovers are welcome to join the Club. SHKP Reading Club is endorsed by celebrities from many walks of life, its first cultural activities include the free Read Monthly and ReadIt magazine, seminars with celebrity speakers, reading and writing workshops and guided cultural tours to inspire more people to enjoy reading and make it a habit.
