Sun Hung Kai Properties (SHKP) staged a talk today as part of the 2013 Read To Dream programme with SHKP Chairman and Managing Director Raymond Kwok and Independent Non-Executive Director Margaret Leung, along with entrepreneur Stark Chan, addressing 150 underprivileged children to discuss reading. The speakers encouraged the students to read more and broaden their horizons to pursue their dreams.
SHKP Chairman and Managing Director Raymond Kwok said: “Reading is like life; you need to have self-discipline and stay focused. So children should persevere and focus their thoughts to realize their dreams.”
Raymond Kwok also encouraged children to read celebrity biographies, saying: “Successful people are mostly humble and learn modestly from others. Reading celebrity biographies can inspire children to learn from others’ experience and gain knowledge. I encourage each and every one of you to share your favourite books with your parents and friends as it is a great way to enjoy the fun of reading.”
Margaret Leung and Stark Chan also talked about reading and encouraged the young audience to develop a reading habit to enhance their language and thinking skills.
Raymond Kwok gave the students selected books with his autograph to encourage them to read more during the summer. The books included winners of the fourth Young Writers’ Debut competition, which are intended to motivate readers to have faith in life under any circumstances.
